Cucumber Watermelon Skinny Martini
It’s not a big secret I like the spirits. What I don’t like is the boring sugar-laden drinks and the calories they bring. Another thing I don’t like is how Iowa doesn’t seem to get on board with the whole spring/summer thing with the rest of the free world. We still have our heat on and earlier in the week, we had ice in the morning. ICE. IN MAY. So I took my love of the martini and a hopeful approach for summer and created this fresh, light, and wonderfully clean-tasting martini.
I used local honey to sweeten and whole fruits. If you wanted to make this virgin, omit the liquor and substitute 1/2 orange juice and 1/2 water. I use Hendrick’s gin because it’s not the juniper-tasting gin. It’s pricey but a little goes a long way and it will last you a long time. If you don’t drink gin, just use your favorite vodka in place and add a little extra honey OR get a watermelon flavored vodka.
Cucumber Watermelon Skinny Martini
What you need:
- 1 c. cubed seedless watermelon
- 1/2 c. cucumber, cubed and seeds removed
- 1 1/2 oz Hendrick’s gin
- 1 oz top-shelf vodka
- 2 tsp honey or agave
- splash of orange juice
What you do:
- In a food processor or blender, blend the watermelon, cucumber, honey/agave, and OJ.
- Pour into shaker filled with ice and add liquor.
- Shake what your momma gave you.
- Using a strainer, pour into martini glass and garnish with cucumber and watermelon wedge.
Isn’t is just so pretty?!?!

That looks fantastic! I don’t drink gin…could you substitute another liquor like vodka into the drink instead?
I meant another liquor with the vodka. TGIF.
Just use double the vodka! Try a flavored one, like watermelon, since the gin lends its own taste where vodka can be quite plain (although it’s definitely my favorite)!
Oh man, I can’t wait to make this. You’ve combined three of my favorite things here. Thank you for sharing!
These pictures absolutely embody SUMMER. Love this. I’m getting a little bored with the tequila-soda-lime. Will definitely give this one a try, and I’ll blame you for any craziness that ensues.
Uh, that really should have been 4 things! Watermelon, cuke, gin, and vodka!
Now THAT is a martini I can get behind. No icky olives! Bring me one at the hospital, ok? ;)
Okay, I have a confession … when you talked about Skinny Martinis on Twitter the other day, I was so not interested. But once you started listing the real food ingredients, I was in. Add in a gin that doesn’t taste like junipers (how did I not know about this??) and I’m even more in. Honey added … another winning factor. Finally, one look at your gorgeous photos and I’m tempted to drive to Iowa to sip one with you … ice or no ice! Awesome recipe, AndreAnna! Can’t wait to make this one and share it with my girlfriends. :-)

Shirley
Why, oh why, do you live so stinking far away from me? I would have so much fun drinking these with you. This recipe looks so refreshing and perfect. We are headed out to go camping up in Sedona this afternoon. I want to make a big batch of this cocktail with me to sip on while I watch the boys set up camp. LOL
And also, for someone who is in the throes of moving, you astound me that you can get up so many posts. I am not going anywhere or packing or unpacking anything and I have only managed to get 1 post up for your last 3! Kudos to you, girlfriend! Seriously!
Okay, off to figure out how to tote this drink along with me. I have a gorgeous organic watermelon sitting on my counter right now!

beeeaauuty-ful! had a hankering for this sort of drink today – but no idea how to make it. thanks!
That looks lovely! I dislike the hard taste of alcohol, but most cocktails are so sugary. Thanks for the neat recipe!
Just stumbled upon your blog. Love the recipes! I just made a grocery list for the week based on a few. And, so very excited to celebrate the spring weekend with this martini. Thanks! :)
Thanks Nikki! Let me know which ones you decide to try and how they come out!
I have stalked your blog for a couple of months. Found you somehow through a crossfit search. I made these tonight and they rocked! I squeezed a slice of lime in mine and it was the perfect combo. They are a hit at the neighborhood cocktail party! Thanks!
Heard about this from GFE. I love martinis, Hendrick’s gin, and cucumbers. I can’t wait to give this a try.
